Why a DOT Card?

Why a DOT Medical Card

A DOT medical card is required for those drivers who hold a CDL. In addition, some states require drivers of vehicles over a certain weight and heavy machinery operators, to obtain a DOT medical card. The DOT medical card ensures that drivers/operators are safe to do so.

What is a DOT Physical?

A DOT physical is a basic screening that includes, among other things:

·        Health history review

·        Urine test (for blood, protein & sugar)

·        Vital signs

·        Vision screening

·        Hearing screening

·        Blood pressure

If the applicant passes they will be issued a DOT Medical Certification following the evaluation. The maximum certification is 2 years. Some medications and conditions have a maximum certification of 1 year, 6 months or 3 months. Your Certified Medical Examiner will determine your level of certification based on your health history and the results of your physical evaluation.

DOT Medical Waivers

If a driver is unqualified according to the FMCSA, they may be able to obtain a waiver. The driver will need to complete an application process and a determination will be made. If approved, the driver will need to carry the waiver at all times while driving/operating.
